When to Seek Help
- When symptoms of depression or anxiety interfere with normal functioning, fulfilling responsibilities, or caring for your infant
- When you aren’t able to identify or ask for the things you need, can’t keep your expectations realistic, or feel critical toward yourself
- When you are concerned about your attachment to or your relationship with your baby
- When your symptoms interfere with your relationships with your partner, children, family, and friends
- When your plan for making changes does not improve your feelings and situation after 2–4 weeks
Seek Help Immediately
If you experience any of the following symptoms seek medical help immediately. If your health care provider is not available, go to the ER or call 911.
- Thoughts of harming yourself or the baby
- Delusions, hallucinations, extreme confusion or disorientation
- Hyperactivity, fast or pressured speech, little need for sleep
- Sudden irrational changes in mood or extreme susceptibility to anger or disappointment
